Donation to Terrebonne School District Helps Nicholls Expand Dual Enrollment

THIBODAUX, La. — Nicholls State University has entered into an agreement with the Terrebonne Parish School District to expand dual enrollment offerings.

The dual enrollment program enables high school students to earn college credit while still working toward their high school diploma. Nicholls will now be able to connect with Terrebonne Parish students via satellite classrooms where a professor on campus broadcasts to students in the school district.

“Regardless of which high schools students attend in the parish, students will be able to take these classes thanks to video conferencing,” said David Zerangue, director of the Academic Services Center. “This exposes a Nicholls education to a larger group of students.”

The expansion is thanks to a Chevron donation of $51,000 to the school district to purchase the equipment.

Zerangue said while they have not finalized the course offerings, Chevron specified that the courses offered must be STEM courses.

The dual enrollment program currently allows for area high school students to take courses on campus or online. This allows students to enter college with many of their 100- to 200-level course offerings complete.
