The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed to KQKI News on Friday that they, along with several other agencies, are searching by air and water for a missing boater in Vermilion near Cypremort Point.  A spokeswoman said a fisherman launched his 17 foot sport fisherman boat from Cypremort Point on Thursday and has not been heard from since.  The Coast Guard Command Center in New Orleans requested the assistance of the Marine Safety Office in Morgan City who dispatched their 29 foot vessel. They have since launched a second boat crew and have also begun searching by air via a Coast Guard Helicopter.

The boater is reportedly in a tan and white 17-foot Boston Whaler with a trolling motor attached to the boat.

The Coast Guard is being assisted by the St. Mary and Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Offices and the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries.
