Governor John Bel Edwards will be in Morgan City on Wednesday to participate in two major announcements for St. Mary Parish. An event is planned for 1:30 p.m. to make an announcement regarding the proposed takeover of Teche Regional Medical Center by Ochsner Health System. The Hospital Service District #2 of St. Mary Parish has been negotiating with Lifepoint Health to end their lease of Teche Regional Medical Center. As a result, the hospital service district has also been in negotiations with Ochsner Health System to be the new operator of the hospital.
Prior to the announcement, the governor will also participate in another major announcement regarding the $80,000,000 Bayou Chene Flood Protection Structure which would provide flood protection to St. Mary, Terrebonne, Lafourche, St. Martin, Assumption and Iberville Parishes. That announcement is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
