Michael Joseph Gautreaux Sr., longtime Bayou Vista Volunteer Fireman, passes away

May 1, 1968 – December 3, 2018

Michael Joseph Gautreaux Sr., a resident of Bayou Vista for the past 27 years, passed away at the age of 50 on Monday, December 3, 2018, at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma following a four month battle with cancer.

Michael was born in Franklin on May 1, 1968, the youngest of nine children born to Curtis and Euphemie Gautreaux. Michael was a Fireman for 27 years with the Bayou Vista Fire Department, where he served as Captain and faithfully called for their Bingo games. He had a generous heart and would help anyone in need no matter what. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing and was a top tier griller who could work magic at the BBQ pit. But by far, his passion in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandsons, and camping with his wife. Although 50 years is far too short a time, Michael most certainly left his mark in life. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those he leaves to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 30 years, Nikki Brown Gautreaux; their two children, Skyla Metrejean and her husband Joseph, and Michael Joseph Gautreaux Jr. and his wife Misty; two grandsons, Brayden Gautreaux and Myles Gautreaux; one brother, Curtis Gautreaux and his wife Connie; five sisters, Betty Jordan, Mary Gautreaux, Verna Gautreaux, Pauline Miller and her husband John, and Anna Blanco and her husband Travis; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Joseph Gautreaux and Euphemie LaPointe Gautreaux; one brother, Lawrence Gautreaux; one sister, Cathy Tedder; and one brother-in-law, Robert Jordan.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Ibert’s Mortuary in Patterson, with Rev. Mark Gowan officiating. Following the service he will be laid to rest in Ibert’s Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Joseph Gautreaux Jr., Joaquin Dombroski, Jonathan Miller (his godchild), Kevin Kinslow, Eric Hofsommer, Curtis Gautreaux, and Calvert “Pop” LaHoste.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Ibert’s Mortuary on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and again Friday, Dec. 7, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
