Port of MC announces additional funding to maintain Bar Channel

The Port of Morgan City announced that the Corps of Engineers FY19 Work Plan was announced to them last week, and the Atchafalaya River and Bayous Boeuf, Black and Chene were allocated an additional $3,025,000. Added to the original FY 19 budget of $12,750,000, the total project allocation for FY 19 is $15,700,000. In addition to the $15,700,000, the Port learned earlier this year that the project was awarded $20,000,000 in supplemental funding for Hurricane Harvey damages to the channel as well as an additional $9,000,000 to the FY 18 work Plan.

This level of funding, along with a recently signed contract between Brice Civil Constructors, Inc. and the New Orleans District Corps of Engineers to maintain the Bar Channel with specialty-built equipment, is expected to provide a 20’ deep by 400’ wide channel for the next 2 to 3 years.
