Mildred Luker Joy passed away peacefully at the age of 87 in the morning hours of Sunday, September 16, 2018, at her home in Lafayette. Mildred was a native of Savannah, Georgia where she was raised and spent her early years. She came to Louisiana in the late 1950’s, living in New Orleans, Lafayette, Patterson, and again in Lafayette where she has resided for over 25 years. She worked for many years as a secretary for various companies until starting her own floral business. Mildred was quite the character who had a laugh that was contagious, a smile that lit up the room, and a personality that allowed her to make friends wherever life took her.
Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her five children, Wilton Robert “Bob” Cason Jr., David Victor Cason, Cathy Anne Cason, Lynette Cason Lutz and her husband Dean, and Amanda Cason Sonnier and her husband Tony; her brother, J. D. Luker and his wife Sein; her grandchildren, Crystal Meaux, Katie Kessler, Rebecca Cason, Tifani Cason, Jacob Cason, George Lutz, Kirsten Price, Miles Miller, Emily Miller, and Wesley Miller; as well as numerous great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Joy Jr.; her father and step-mother, James M. Luker and Marion Luker; her mother, Winnie Price Wolf; and her step-father, Haskell Knight.
Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church, 1100 Lee Avenue in Lafayette, on Friday, September 21, 2018, at 10:00 am, with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 9:00 am. Rev. Steve Horn will conduct the services. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date in the Patterson Protestant Cemetery.
