Suspect Leads Police In Chase With Stolen ATV Before Crashing Into A House

Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue announced the arrest of Daronti Wesley (B/M, 19) for Off-Road Vehicles; Permits for use on Shoulders of Highways, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things (Felony), Aggravated Flight from an Officer (Felony), Resisting an Officer & Simple Criminal Damage to Property.

On Wednesday, July 4th, 2018, at approximately 1:48 p.m., a Thibodaux Police Officer observed two off-road vehicles with two black male drivers traveling on the roadway near the intersection of Plantation Road and Ridgefield Avenue. Upon attempting a traffic stop on the two ATV’s for the violation, the subjects sped off. Shortly after the pursuit ensued, one of the ATV’s (Dirt Bike) entered an Apartment Complex in the 1300 Block of Ridgefield Avenue, while the second ATV (Four-Wheeler) continued fleeing from the officer on the roadway.

The pursuit then continued involving multiple Thibodaux Police units that went throughout the streets on the west side of the city. The ATV (Four-Wheeler) eventually crashed into a residence in the 1200 Block of Jefferson Street, where the driver later identified as Wesley was found standing in the front yard. A foot pursuit immediately ensued between Westley and the Officers. After fleeing through the back yards of countless residences in the area, Wesley was apprehended. It was later learned that during the foot pursuit, Wesley also intentionally damaged a fence in the 500 Block of Locust Street.

Neither the unknown black male driver, nor the dirt-bike was ever located, but the recovered four-wheeler in question which was driven by Westley was confirmed to be reported stolen to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office on July 3, 2018. The owners of both the stolen ATV and the damaged residence were contacted and are working with police in reference to the incident.

Wesley was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, where he remains on a $50,100.00 Bond.
