At 10:00 am this morning deputies responded to the Tobacco Plus store at 1005 E. Admiral Doyle.  The call was in reference to an accident involving a pedestrian and a delivery truck. Arriving deputies found a 60-year-old white male pinned beneath the front axle of a United Parcel Service truck. The driver of the UPS truck was inside the store making a delivery when the victim arrived in a taxi.  I appears the victim could not walk due to a foot injury and was crawling in front of the UPS  truck to enter the store.  The driver did not see the victim and began to drive away when customers stopped the truck.  The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.  The victim has been identified as Richard Maturin of New Iberia.  The accident is being investigated by the Iberia Parish Sheriffs Department.
