Sheriff Scott Anslum announces that the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s office will participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day coordinated through the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The initiative gives residents an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their home of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription pills. Medicines left unused in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse.
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2014 between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. You can bring pills or patches ONLY for disposal to one of several sites being hosted by agencies in St. Mary Parish. This service is free and anonymous, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Expired, unused, or unwanted medications may be brought to either of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office sites at Walmart on US Highway 90 in Bayou Vista and at Walgreens on Main Street in Franklin. Visit https://takebackday.dea.gov/ for more information on the program.
