Betty Jane Desormeaux Sonnier

Funeral services will be held for Betty Jane Desormeaux Sonnier on Monday, January 29, 2018, at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin during a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial, with Father Lloyd Benoit as Celebrant. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest in the Perpetual Park Cemetery in Franklin. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the church and continue until Mass time. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Sonnier Jr., Daniel Sonnier, Jake Bonvillain, Jacob Steiner, Eric Gorman, Derrick Sonnier, and Dennis Sonnier Jr.

Betty was born on November 14, 1958 to the late Dalton Desormeaux Sr. and the late Clara Thibodeaux Desormeaux and passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the age of 59. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. A woman of strong faith in the Lord, Betty was a devout Catholic and a member of the Church of the Assumption. Some of her favorite pastimes were sewing, arts and crafts, playing the organ, and especially making others laugh. She had the ability to leave the days struggles and worries behind and lived her journey through this world one day at a time.

Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her husband of 42 years, Michael H. Sonnier Sr., four children, Michelle S. Pitre and her husband Quinon, Michael H. Sonnier Jr. and his wife Megan, Rebekah S. Bonvillain and her husband Jake, and Daniel M. Sonnier; 12 grandchildren, Brennan Chapman, Brayden Chapman, Brant Chapman, Emma Pitre, Jesse Sonnier, Lucas Sonnier, Braxton Chapman, Lilly Sonnier, Lexie Sonnier, Sagelee Meyers, Alyssa Pitre, and Jules Sonnier; two sisters, Beverly D. Peltier and her husband Karl and Barbara D. Gorman and her husband Mike; one brother, Dalton Desormeaux Jr.; father-in-law, Irving Sonnier; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Elva Jane Desormeaux Sonnier.
