RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA SALES BECOME LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA

Legal sales of recreational marijuana began in California on Monday (January 1st), at shops that had gotten one of the about 100 state licenses that have been issued so far. State residents voted in 2016 to make it legal for adults 21 and older to grow, possess and use limited quantities of marijuana, but it wasn’t legal to sell it for recreational purposes until yesterday. California, which was the first state to legalize medical marijuana in 1996, has joined a growing number of states that are legalizing recreational use of the drug.
