Employee fatally shot outside Boy Scout camp in Louisiana

CLINTON, La. (AP) — A Boy Scout camp employee has been shot and killed at his home outside the Louisiana camp where he worked.

East Feliciana Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis tells local media outlets that the victim was Brad DeFranceschi. Chief Criminal Deputy Greg Phares says deputies responded to the shooting at 11:15 a.m. Monday morning and are investigating it as a homicide.

DeFranceschi is the fourth middle-aged white man to be shot since July in the area, but investigators don’t know if the shootings are related. The earlier shootings occurred within 25 miles. Two were fatal.

Local media report that the FBI has been asked to help investigate.

The Avondale Scout Reservation website lists DeFranceschi as a camp ranger — someone who maintains the camp. The camp is outside Clinton, about 29 miles north of Baton Rouge.
