MCPD Detectives Make Second Arrest In Morgan City High Investigation

On September 18th the Morgan City Police Department began an investigation in regards to a juvenile being in possession of a firearm at the Morgan City High School. The firearm was located near, but off of, school property and had obliterated serial numbers. That juvenile was arrested and the investigation continued by the Detectives Division. According to reports, during the investigation, it was learned that the juvenile had obtained the firearm from a family member. That subject was identified as Leroy D. Byers. Evidence was uncovered linking Byers to the crime. It was also found that Byers was a convicted felon prohibiting him from possessing a firearm. Warrants were prepared for his arrest. Byers was located and arrested in the area of Mallard St. Byers was transported the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated. Probation and Parole also placed a detainer for Byers. The investigation is still ongoing.
