Iberia Parish orders voluntary evacuation

Iberia Parish authorities have ordered a voluntary evacuation.  Iberia Parish President Larry Richard said the National Weather Service has forecast flooding rains which could impede evacuation from the area as Tropical Storm Harvey affects the region.  The order states that elderly residents and residents with special medical or mobility requirements should especially consider evacuation until the risk to Iberia Parish from Tropical Storm Harvey has passed.

If the threat of dangerous weather worsens, the Iberia Parish Government will declare a mandatory evacuation, provide evacuation assistance, and open a shelter for residents in need of a place to stay.

Richard is also advising that residents refrain from travel on roads and bridges during periods of heavy rainfall or tornado development.
