Berwick High School honored one of their own Tuesday night as the late Coach Tommy Bourgeois was inducted into the Berwick High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Bourgeois was a 1976 graduate of Berwick High where he played football, baseball and basketball and was named Mr. BHS as the most athletic during his senior year.
A plaque listing Bourgeois’ many accomplishments was presented to his family by Principal Dr. Buffy Feganbush.
During his 32 year career, Coach Bourgeois served as the head basketball and football coach, assistant baseball coach and Athletic Director at Berwick High. He also served as the assistant principal of Bayou Vista Elementary from 2000 until 2002 and principal of Berwick Junior High from 2002 until 2014.
Bourgeois was honored as the District Basketball Coach of the Year in 1992 and 1993 as well as the Assistant Coach of the Louisiana High School All-Star West Basketball team in 1994.
He passed away from ALS in January 2014.
St. Mary Parish School Superintendent Leonard Armato, who was in attendance at Tuesday night’s induction ceremony prior to the Berwick High Basketball game, said Bourgeois made a lasting impact upon St. Mary Parish.
