UPDATED 01-22-2019
Eunice, Louisiana – on January 21, 2019 the Eunice police Department responded to Mercy Regional
Medical Center for a gunshot victim. lt was learned that the victim was transported to the Hospital by
friends. Officers discovered from witnesses that the shooting occurred at a residence on the 1600 block
of West Vine Avenue in Eunice and it was possibly a drive by shooting, with the only information given
was that the suspect’s vehicle was a dark colored car. A shot was fired at the victim’s vehicle and struck
the victim. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
lnvestigators arrived on scene to canvas the area for evidence related to the incident but were
unsuccessful in locating a ny evidence of a drive by shooting. lnvestigators arrived at the hospitaland
met with witnesses and secured the victim’s vehicle and had it brought to the Eunice Police Department
for evidence processing.
Once evidence was gathered at the hospital, lnvestigators began to interview witnesses and began
creating a time line of the events of the evening. lnvestigators learned that there was a gathering in a
nearby city which resulted in fistic encounters between numerous individuals. lnvestigators now had
new theories to work with.
During the investigation it was learned that the victim, identified as 23 year old Oshae Doffeny,
sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest hitting vital organs which resulted in his death.
lnvestigators were able to determine that the original story given by friends of the victim was fabricated
and lnvestigators learned that Doffeny’s injuries were not sustained from a drive by shooting but in fact,
was his friend that shot him. lnvestigators have identified 19 year old Daricko Stevens as the shooter.
lnvestigators uncovered evidence that suggests Steven’s was in possession of a pistol while he and
Doffeny were speaking inside of the vehicle.
lnvestigators believe that Stevens firearm went off striking Doffeny in the chest. lnvestigators learned
that Steven’s did drive Doffeny to the hospital, only after he attempted to destroy evidence and
fabricate the story of a drive by.
lnvestigators have obtained a warrant for Stevens for the charges of Manslaughter and obstruction of
justice and he was arrested this morning.
