HOUMA, LA – Shortly after 11:00 a.m. this morning, Troopers with Troop C responded to a fatal crash involving four vehicles on LA 24 North at the Buquet Street Bridge. The crash took the life of 39-year-old Ahmad Jackson of Jeanerette and seriously hurt two others.

The preliminary investigation revealed 35-year-old Denise Jones of D’Iberville, MS was traveling north on LA 24 North in the right lane. Jones was driving a 2014 Nissan Maxima and began making an illegal left turn towards the Buquet Street Bridge from the right lane. As Jones turned, she struck a 1994 Ford-350 being driven in the left lane by 38-year-old Donald Bush of Zwolle, LA. The impact caused Bush’s vehicle to rotate to the right and overturn. Bush was wearing his seat belt and suffered minor injuries. Jackson was a passenger in Bush’s vehicle and was not wearing his seat belt. Jackson suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Two other passengers in Bush’s vehicle, 42-year-old Thomas Bush and 19-year-old Jason Myers, both of Lafayette, suffered serious injuries. All three were transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans by Acadian Ambulance Air Med. Seat belt usage by Myers and T. Bush is unknown at this time. Jones was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Jones submitted a breath sample which showed no alcohol present. Donald Bush submitted a blood sample and toxicology results are pending through the LSP Crime Lab. Two unoccupied vehicles were parked near the scene and were struck by debris from the crash. This crash remains under investigation.
