Charles E. “Butch” Duncan Jr., a longtime resident of Franklin, passed away at the age of 69 on Friday, March 1, 2019, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, just 14 days shy of his 70th birthday. Butch was born on Tuesday, March 15, 1949 in Bellville, Texas, the second of three children and the only boy born to Charles E. Duncan Sr. and Mary Laverne Brast Duncan. At the age of 19 on August 16, 1968 he married the love of his life, Cheryl LaFont, at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin. They were blessed with five children, Candy, Charles III, Asa, Freddie, and Ashley. Butch was a proud father and took great joy in all of his family. In 2018 Butch and Cheryl celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and renewed their vows in the same church they were united in.
Butch worked his entire career in the Oil Field, working many years in Alaska. He also worked as a commercial fisherman when he was on his time off, making sure he provided for his family. He retired from the oil field in 2016 after many years of dedicated service.
Some of his favorite pastimes included listening to music, especially Rock-N-Roll, dancing, telling stories, cooking, hanging out with his friends, and most importantly family get-togethers. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and growing a vegetable garden, passing on his knowledge and techniques to family and friends. No matter the occasion or where he was, he never met a stranger and definitely left his mark on all he came in contact with due to his sincere heart and sense of humor. Butch was also a die-hard Cowboys fan and was a member of the Baldwin Council Knights of Columbus. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
His memory will forever live in the hearts of his wife of 50 years, Cheryl LaFont Duncan; his five children, Candy Bobbitt and her husband Rodney, Charles “Bubba” Duncan III and his wife Bonnie, Asa Duncan and his companion Angela, Freddie Duncan Sr. and his wife Taryn, and Ashley LaCoste and her husband Andrew; his sister, Lavetra Kay Duncan Hampton and her husband Joseph Lee Hampton Jr.; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Pichoff Duncan; 19 grandchildren, Chase Landry, Kylie Landry, Chelsea Lambur, Kylee Bobbitt, Ashlee Frederick, Tristan Duncan, Braxton Duncan, Cameron Duncan, Ethan Duncan, Aidan Duncan, Tyler Duncan, Bradley Duncan, Freddie Duncan Jr., Alexis Duncan, Kaylee Duncan, Lanie LaCoste, Andrew LaCoste Jr., Grayson LaCoste, and Charlee LaCoste; eight great grandchildren, Masyn, Giovanni, Kayson, Bryleigh, Ma’Kinley, Paizlee, Aliyana, and Tyler Jr.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
