Berwick Police Department has charged an 81 year old Bayou Vista woman on a warrant for felony hit and run after an elderly woman was struck by a vehicle Saturday night in Berwick.
On Saturday, February 9, 2019, at 7:05 PM Officers of the Berwick Police Department were dispatched to La Hwy 182 at Tournament Blvd. in reference to an elderly female being struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival witnesses stated that a pedestrian was crossing the roadway when she was struck by a light colored SUV which was traveling west on Hwy 182. The suspect vehicle left the scene headed toward Bayou Vista and did not stop to render aid. The victim was later transported to New Orleans via Air Med due to the severity of her injuries.
On Sunday afternoon, a deputy located the vehicle involved in the incident at a residence in Bayou Vista. Joanne McDermott, 81 years of age, of Bayou Vista was booked at 5:28 p.m. at the Berwick Police Department on the felony hit and run charge and was released on a $1,500 bond.
